Iconography and the Role of Wisdom. September 5, by The Index. The personification of Wisdom in medieval art is usually grouped with other virtues, such as Justice, Hope, Prudence, Chastity, Poverty, Courage and Fortitude. While she works in communion with these sisters, she also performs her own distinct role.   Iconography is a branch within art history and is not necessarily specific to religious art. Of course in our blog we are discussing iconography specific to the Christian faith, characters, and events. We will be also practicing iconology, which is the study of icons. Some differentiate iconography, as the IDENTIFICATION of the visual content.

Includes indexes and abstracts art-related books, conference proceedings, dissertations, exhibition and dealers' catalogs. BHA and RILA encompasses fine arts-painting, sculpture, drawing, Heaven (iconography) Hell (iconography) Hexaemeron (iconography) Judas Iscariot (iconography). The iconography of man, woman, and desert island -- ''Six Days Seven Nights,'' ''The Blue Lagoon,'' and ''Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison'' fit the formula.

The book and the sword of the spirit are symbolic of St. Paul, and to the far right, St. Thomas holds a spear, his symbol, probably derived from the tradition that he went to India to preach the Gospel and was there stoned, shot with arrows, and left dying until a Hindu priest ran him through with a spear. Peter is shown holding the keys of the kingdom and a book with the rooster that crowed three times on the night he betrayed Jesus. Iconography, or the use of pictorial symbols for saints that gave it all up for Jesus, was a means of preserving their deeds in memory, so that as we read their words we also feel the impact of their commitment.

And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven." Roman Catholicism points to this passage as supporting papal supremacy.

The pillars and columns in Heaven are so wonderful! They are not made like the ones on. I also devote a lot of time to teaching iconography to adults and do workshops at my old school for the upper intermediate classes.

After all the hard work and long hours to create these beautiful images the greatest joy for me is to see them in church bringing God’s .
